The Regenerative Practitioner Series

We offer the Series several times per year to cohorts of 20-30 practitioners in communities around the world. Enrollment is now open for cohorts with Intensives in Great Britain & Ireland (deadline April 24),  New York (deadline April 24), Aotearoa (deadline May 24), and Australia (deadline June 14th). Additional cohorts serving other locations enroll throughout the year. You can also join our inquiry list to receive updates when new cohorts open.

About the series

The Regenerative Practitioner Series is an intensive deep dive for practitioners who are called to take their capability to practice regenerative work to the next level.

Over the course of the six-month program, participants engage deeply with a methodology for regenerative development that has been developed and extensively field-tested by Regenesis over 27 years and hundreds of projects around the world.

The Regenerative Practitioner Series has been evolved and refined over a decade of delivery to 40+ cohorts of practitioners hailing from over 30 countries. Graduates from across a broad diversity of geographies, cultures, and professional disciplines describe the series as an experience that is deeply transformative, and provides a new platform from which to bring regenerative processes to your work, your collaborations, and your communities.

“Hands down the best personal and professional development experience I’ve ever had.”

Joel Hooper

“Truly a life-changing opportunity.”

Miguel Quinones
Virgin Islands

“Incredibly inspiring and mind-shifting.”

Marlies van der Wee

It’s time to do the deep work

There is rapidly increasing consensus around the imperative need to bring our human communities back into life-giving alignment with the ecological systems that nourish us. This requires outer development — projects, initiatives, infrastructure and systems change.

The Regenerative Practitioner Series is based on the premise that the critical foundation for this outer development is the inner development of new levels of capacity, consciousness, cultural identity and will, both in ourselves as practitioners and in the communities and systems we work within.

Core to the process of developing a regenerative practice is growing the capacity to work simultaneously on these inner and outer dimensions.

Our understanding of what’s required of ourselves as practitioners and as human beings deepens as this inner work unfolds. For this reason, we do not think of the series as a “training” but rather as a deep dive into a new way of seeing and thinking about our work that provides a new foundation from which to chart one’s own unique developmental path.

How does the series work?

The Regenerative Practitioner Series is an in-depth, six-month course held over Zoom, culminating in a three-day Intensive (held either in-person or on Zoom). The course includes ten two-hour dialogue sessions structured around our curriculum of readings and practice exercises.

Q

How does the series work?

The Regenerative Practitioner Series is an in-depth, five-month course held over Zoom. The course includes ten two-hour dialogue sessions structured around our curriculum of reading material and practice exercises, and culminates in a three-day intensive workshop.

Sessions

  • Sessions are two hours in length, held every other week. For each session, participants will complete a preparatory reading and assignment.
  • The sessions themselves combine live instruction with open group dialogue and one-on-one “fishbowl” time, where a single participant works with our instructors to explore a project they are actually working on as a way of bringing strategic frameworks to life for the entire group.
  • The sessions are recorded and made available for download, so you can catch up if you miss a session. Participants typically spend between 3 – 5 hours per week preparing for and engaging in the sessions and course assignments while this portion of the course is underway.
  • In the off weeks between sessions, you will be encouraged to meet with one another in small study groups to work on grounding the content of the sessions through real-life application and a group assignment.
  • Each study cohort receives 4 hours of faculty coaching over the duration of the series.

Intensive

  • Depending on your cohort selection, your Intensive may be held either online or in person.
  • The Intensive takes place over a long weekend, with sessions lasting all day with a lunch break on Friday – Sunday.
  • The Intensive combines dialogue in large and small groups with journaling and reflection exercises.
  • The Intensive is followed by a final two-hour zoom session, held approximately two weeks after the weekend workshop.

Have a question about how the course works? Submit it via our inquiry form.

Is this course right for me?

We encourage all prospective TRP participants to engage in their own process of self-identifying as a regenerative practitioner. To support you in that, we’ve developed a list of qualities that can help you assess whether the course would be a good fit for you.

Q

Is this course right for me?

We encourage all prospective TRP participants to engage in your own process of self-identifying as a regenerative practitioner. To support you in that, we’ve developed a list of qualities that regenerative practitioners tend to share, which can help you see whether the course would be a good fit.

To help with this, you might ask yourself whether some or all of these statements apply to you:

  • You often see bigger potential than is being realized on the projects you’re involved in but haven’t found a way to help your collaborators and/or clients see and align with that potential.
  • You know that sustainability will never accomplish its aims if we can’t change the way we think and work, but you’re not sure how to achieve this.
  • Your work is important and meaningful to you, but you still feel the drive to learn and develop along a path so that your work and the essence of “who you are” become further and further integrated.
  • You have a track record of delivering results, and yet you continually see possibilities beyond the level that you are currently able to realize.
  • You feel a strong desire to be part of a larger community of likeminded practitioners mutually committed to growing and deepening the impact of your work.

If so, you may be a good candidate for the series. If you are considering enrolling in TRP but unsure as to whether the course is right for you, you may request a conversation with a faculty member to mutually assess whether it’s a fit.

What material is covered?

The series is structured around a systemic framework that has been developed and tested over decades of working in communities around the world. The framework integrates four core elements that enable regenerative thinking and working across nested systems.

Q

What material does the series cover?

The series is structured around a systemic framework that has been drawn from and tested through decades of working on regenerative development projects in communities all over the world. The framework integrates four core elements that enable regenerative thinking and working across the nested systems in which we work.

The learning outcomes of the series are as follows:

  • A deeper understanding and embodiment of regenerative development principles and how they unfold both in your personal life and in projects and communities
  • Greater ability to assess project design and development practices for their regenerative potential
  • Greater ability to define how a regenerative approach would apply to various sectors and fields of practice relevant to your work
  • Increased capacity to manage complexity as a means to deliver greater value to clients and stakeholders
  • A new grounding into the significance of place as a coalescing force for regenerative work, yielding fresh insights and observations into the places in which you live and work.
  • New insight into the contribution that your practice can make to the systems in which you work, and the ability to chart your own developmental path towards realizing that contribution
  • The support of a growing learning community of peers and colleagues who share your commitment to creating profoundly innovative work in service to a healthier community and world.
  • New insights into and discernment around how to grow increasing levels of caring, motivation and spirit in our teams and our projects.

Course Tuition & Scholarships/Subsidies

Tuition for the Series varies by cohort location. Click on the drop-down menus below under Cohorts Enrolling Now to see a given cohort’s tuition. We offer a variety of strategies to create tuition accessibility.

Sliding Scale Tuition

Tuition is available on a sliding scale basis; we invite applicants to self-select whether they are able to pay the full tuition, need a 25% discount, or need a 50% discount.

We encourage you to self-select the standard tuition rate if you have an established and successful practice, in economic conditions that make this a viable investment for you. If you need a discount in order to make your investment in the Series viable, please select one of the discounted rates.

For practitioners who require more than a 50% discount to enable their participation, additional scholarships are available (see Scholarships/Subsidies section below). We also offer the option to pay tuition via a six month payment plan (see the Payment Plans section below). We encourage you to reach out if you have further questions about our sliding scale tuition or scholarship program.

Additional Equity-Based Scholarships/Subsidies

If our sliding scale discounts are not sufficient to enable your participation, we encourage you to make a request for additional scholarship/subsidy funds.

To apply, you will fill out the enrollment form and indicate that you require additional funds, which will then prompt you with additional questions to complete your scholarship/subsidy request. We approve scholarships/subsidies on a rolling basis, so we strongly encourage applicants who know they would require such support to apply as early as possible in the enrollment period. Please note, if you are requesting a scholarship, you will not complete the process of paying your course tuition until your request is reviewed and approved.

We place a special emphasis on using scholarship/subsidy funds to create equity of access to this work and inclusivity within our “community of communities”, as based on alignment with our equity priorities:

  • Practitioners who work as community activists and/or organizers serving marginalized populations and/or underfunded communities.
  • Practitioners from underrepresented backgrounds, including Indigenous practitioners and practitioners of color.
  • Practitioners from countries with low economic purchasing power relative to the US (including countries in Africa and Latin America).
  • Practitioners who are coming from a lack of financial stability or security, including those whose financial stability has been affected by current global economic conditions.

Please note that scholarships/subsidies take the form of a reduction in your tuition costs. If you select a cohort that includes an in-person Intensive, you will still be responsible for your personal travel expenses.

Payment Plans

Six-month payment plans are available. To enroll in the Series, you may either pay the full tuition amount, or pay the first of the six monthly payments. Payment plans include administrative fees. Please note, if you are requesting a scholarship, you will not complete the process of paying your course tuition until your request is approved.

Group Discounts

Interested in participating as a group with your colleagues? We’ve seen again and again that learning this work alongside other members of one’s organization powerfully supports participants building the scaffolding for deeper and more effective integration. We offer a group discount of 10% off the tuition price for colleagues or collaborators from the same team and/or organization who sign up together. The discount applies to groups of four or more registrants. Contact us at info(at)regenerat.es for further information.

Withdrawals and Refunds

If circumstances intervene and you are no longer able to participate after having registered, we are able to offer a full refund of your tuition and/or deposit up until the enrollment deadline. If you need to withdraw after that point, we will retain any deposit/tuition paid as a credit-on-file should you want to participate in a future cohort.

American Institute of Architects Members

For American Institute of Architects (AIA) members, this course is eligible for 46 CES LUs.

Aotearoa (New Zealand) Hybrid in-Person/Online with Intensive in Auckland, Winter-Spring 2024

The cohort begins with an in-person Meetup at the Blockhouse Bay Boat Club in Auckland, and culminates in an in-person Intensive at Puukaki Marae. Photo courtesy of the Blockhouse Bay Boat Club.

Enrollment Open through May 24th

Cohort Overview

We began organizing The Regenerative Practitioner Series in Aotearoa in 2015, working in partnership with our local host team and members of the Aotearoa community of practice (which has now grown to over 150 TRP graduates, which is the highest concentration of TRP graduates in the world). The Series in Aotearoa has evolved over its delivery to ten consecutive cohorts over the years, and is now co-delivered through a partnership between US-based Regenesis faculty and local Aotearoa faculty members Johnnie Freeland (Ngāti Te Ata Waiohui, Ngai Tūhoe) and Lucy-Mary Mulholland.

This new cohort of The Regenerative Practitioner Series will begin in mid-June and conclude in October. A total of ten core sessions will be held on Zoom every other week for two hours, supplemented by optional mātauranga sessions offered by Māori practitioners. The Series begins with an in-person gathering at the Blockhouse Bay Boat Club in Auckland (pictured above); participants who cannot travel to be there can join online via Zoom. The Series will culminate with a three-day-long in-person Intensive in October at Puukaki Marae (Manukau Harbour, Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland).

The 2024 Aotearoa cohort will be informed by the concept of binocular vision, an approach that allows for the two circular thinking lenses of Te Ao Māori and regenerative development to sit alongside each other in a complementary relationship. This cohort’s learning journey will also be enriched by place-sourced learning through its anchoring in and around the Manukau Harbour. To complement international case studies from the more than 25 years of experience Regenesis has had in the field, students will also have an opportunity to learn about a local regenerative development project focused on the regeneration of the Pūhinui River (flowing into the Manukau Harbour) co-led by alumni of the series, with support from Regenesis faculty.

Cohort Components

The Series consists of the following:

  • A half-day Meetup in person at the Blockhouse Bay Boat Club in Auckland (those unable to travel are welcome to join via Zoom); this includes a shared lunch and the opportunity to connect afterward with other members of the practitioner community
  • Nine two-hour sessions (held over Zoom)
  • A culminating three-day Intensive held in-person at Puukaki Marae in Auckland
  • Self-organised study group meet-ups (on the off weeks); each study group receives four hours of faculty coaching
  • A variety of mātauranga sessions offered alongside the fortnightly zoom sessions led by Johnnie Freeland (Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua, Ngai Tūhoe) and other Māori practitioners (attendance is optional but encouraged).

    In Person-Meetup Details

The half-day Meetup will be held in-person at the Blockhouse Bay Boat Club, on the Northern side of Manukau Harbour in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. For those who are unable to join in-person, there will be an option to join via Zoom. The session will include an overview and orientation to the Series, a shared lunch, and an opportunity to connect with other members of the local practitioner community.

    In-Person Intensive Details

The culminating in-person Intensive will be held over three days (Thursday, October 10 – Saturday, October 12) at Puukaki Marae, near Auckland Airport. We kindly request participants plan to attend the full three days in full, as the Intensive is an immersive experience and core element of the curriculum. The Intensive is an opportunity for Regenesis faculty, Aotearoa host team members, and practitioners in the cohort to gather, connect, learn and stay over night (sleeping in the wharenui/main room of the Marae). Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided each day.

    Supplemental Mataraunga Sessions

While the fortnightly core sessions of the Series will focus on the Regenerative Practitioner curriculum, we are delighted to invite participants to join us for a variety of supplemental mātauranga offerings throughout the cohort delivery period. These sessions will focus on how  Te Ao Māori and regenerative development can co-enrich each other through a complimentary relationship, which we refer to as “binocular vision”.

Sliding Scale Tuition and Subsidy Information

Tuition is available on a sliding scale basis; we invite applicants to self-select whether they are able to pay the full tuition, need a 25% discount, or need a 50% discount. Please see the Course Tuition and Scholarships/Subsidies section above for complete information.

We encourage you to self-select the standard tuition rate if you have an established and successful practice, in economic conditions that make this a viable investment for you. We encourage practitioners to coordinate Institute-supported in-person gatherings in service of their ongoing learning journeys together.

    Online Intensive Details

The Intensive, which falls between the second-to-last and last sessions of the Series, is an important and profound opportunity for practitioners to dive deeply into this work as a learning community.  The online Intensive is held over Zoom to enable participation from practitioners from across  Australia, and includes time together as a full cohort, time in breakout groups, and time in independent journaling and reflection. We encourage participants who wish to gather in small local and/or regional groups to do so, with our Australian host team providing logistical support for such gatherings.

Sliding Scale Tuition and Scholarship Information

Tuition for the series is $2750 USD (the AUD exchange rate may vary). France with In-Person Intensive in Drôme, Spring-Summer 2024

    Enrollment Open Through March 19th

This cohort is open to practitioners based anywhere in Europe, with a special orientation towards growing the community of practitioners based in France. The learning experience is well suited to cross pollination between local and non-local practitioners.

This new cohort of The Regenerative Practitioner Series will begin in April and conclude in September with an in-person Intensive in the South of France. Launched at an important moment in our exciting efforts to grow an international francophone community around this work, the cohort will coincide with the release of the French version of our book, Regenerative Development and Design: A Framework for Evolving Sustainability. Core sessions will be delivered in English with additional, intermittent French-language support for those practitioners who do speak French where helpful.

Core sessions will be held on Zoom every other week for two hours. The Series will culminate with a three-day-long in-person Intensive in September at Les Amanins, in the Drôme region of France, from Thursday 12th September to Sunday 15th September 2024. (All other prior and subsequent course sessions will be held over Zoom.) Les Amanins is a pioneering hub for agroecology and regeneration, comprising a working farm, primary school and eco-centre. The centre is 45min from Valence TGV train station (2 hours train from Paris).

Tuition costs include accommodation and meals at the Intensive, as well as refreshments, but do not include your personal travel expenses. Meals will be made from organic produce from the farm and surrounding area, mostly vegetarian. Gluten-free diets can be accommodated upon request. Please note that accommodation consists primarily of shared rooms; to inquire about single rooms please contact us.

Participants will arrive on Thursday 13th in the afternoon in time for a welcome dinner that evening. Intensive sessions will run for the entirety of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, finishing before 5pm on Sunday. Please note that there is no wifi available on-site.

This cohort has been co-organized in partnership with an active group of francophone Regenerative Development practitioners from Europe and North America. We invite French-speaking practitioners from around the world to consider joining this cohort as a first step towards participating in the co-design of this emerging francophone regenerative practitioner community.

Tuition for this cohort is $3100 USD. This reflects our base cohort tuition of $2750 USD plus $350 for meals and accommodation at the Intensive. Scholarships and payment plans are available; please see the Tuition and Scholarships section above for additional information. NB: For professionals based in France, this course may be eligible for funding from Fonds interprofessionnel de formation des professionnels libéraux (FIFPL).
